If your council isn’t VAT registered but reclaims VAT via Form VAT126, this session is a must.

You’ll learn how VAT law applies to local councils.  Find the right VAT legislation & guidance.  Business vs non-business activities.  When sales are taxable or exempt.  When VAT registration becomes necessary.  Rules on reclaiming VAT (including grants & donations).  Partial exemption explained

Brand new to local councils? 

This introductory session is perfect for clerks, deputy or assistant clerks and finance officers in their first few months.

Get a clear overview of the council year and the basics of the RFO’s role, covering roles & responsibilities.  Budgeting & precept.  Internal control.  AGAR (Annual Governance & Accountability Return). Internal & external audit.   

Note: If you have 9+ months’ experience, please choose one of our more advanced sessions instead.
